Nintendo in the Mainstream: 11/10/07

Sure, we all love to soak in the fanboy fun of gaming press-- but sometimes it's even more interesting to see what the mainstream press has to say about our favorite hobby's favorite publisher. Here's what serious journalists writing serious articles have to say about Nintendo this glorious Saturday.
  • CNN takes a look at Nintendo's financial performance. While the success of the Wii has Nintendo stock prices soaring high, analysts wonder how long Nintendo can coast on the success of two products. This article's quite unusual as financial articles about gaming companies go, complete with an analyst complaining that Nintendo isn't doing enough to bring in hardcore gamers!
  • Odd Numbers takes a truly fascinating look at the Wii's Everyone Votes channel from a statistical viewpoint, and gives me an excuse to pimp the truly awesome Everybody Votes blog. As silly as I thought this channel was when it launched, one of the first things I always do now when I fire up the Wii is log in and check it out. Nintendo's on to something here, although I'm not sure even Nintendo knows what it is.
  • Time Magazine's website is honoring its editors picks for best inventions of 2007, and two of the three winners in the video game category are Nintendo systems. The DS Lite takes top honors for being cheap, stylish, and kid-friendly, while the Wii gets a nod for being the system that gets butts off couches. What's odd about reading this one as a games writer is seeing what titles Time's all hyped up for. Mario Party on the DS looks great, but for the Wii... Boogie and Carnival Games? Really?
