Final Fantasy IV is a great game, and its upcoming 3D DS remake looks like it's going to be utterly mindblowing. One of FFIV's strong points is its incredible soundtrack, and the DS version is promising to have a new arrangement by Junya Nakano and Kenichiro Fukui. While there's no US release date for FFIV yet, a two-disc soundtrack CD of the DS arrangements streets in Japan on 01/30/08. The set comes packages with a promotional DVD that should have some movie goodness for folks with R2 players lying around.
Something more curious streets on 12/05/07: a single of the DS version's vocal theme. Called "Tsukino Akari", this is a rearrangement of the original game's "Theme of Love" with new lyrics written by original FFIV scribe Takashi Tokita and sung by Megumi Ida. As I recall, Theme of Love is played most prominently in the original game in that weird scene where Edward is moping by himself at night and ends up fighting a weird mermaid thing. (Trust me, this scene is a lot better than I make it sound.) "Theme of Love" is a beautiful song as is, and it's hard to tell if lyrics will enhance it or just make it worse.
Only one way to find out! We're placing our orders for the single and CD soundtrack now, and when it streets we'll try provide you a taste of the promo DVD contents, some lyrics, and full reviews of the music. After all, what's a good RPG without good music? Probably something nobody wants to play. Thanks to awesome video game music site Music for Games for catching the great info on the FFIV CD releases. I'd say they rocked, but....
If you're like me and having a hard time being patient until the new FFIV goodies come in, there's some cool stuff you can download now on the game's official Japanese site. (Be warned, it's entirely in Flash.) The best of the offerings for those of us who don't comprehend moonspeak are in the Download section, where there are a ton of wallpapers you can snag. I'm alternating between Cecil and Kain right now, m'self. (Is it just me or does Cecil's 3D model look kinda gothy now?)
