DS is Best-Selling Game System of 2007, Says Nintendo

Normally I'd look upon these figures with a more cynical eye. I mean, of course Nintendo wants you to think it's DS uber alles. Still, it's kind of hard to argue when DSes are so ubiquitous. Quoth Nintendo:

More than 6 million Nintendo DS portable video game systems have sold in the United States in 2007 through Nov. 30, according to internal Nintendo of America Inc. sales numbers. That's a rate of about one sold every five seconds of 2007, enough to project Nintendo DS will be the top-selling video game system of any kind for the year. Nintendo DS has increased its sales in the United States every year since it launched in November 2004.

Just why do people want the DS so badly?

The huge appeal of Nintendo DS stems from the diversity of software available for the system. Four Nintendo DS games have sold more than 2 million in the United States alone, including New Super Mario Bros.®, Mario Kart® DS, Pokémon® Diamond and Super Mario® 64 DS.

You know, it keeps weirding me out that Pokemon Diamond is appreciably more popular than Pearl over here. Anyone know why?

I think it's a subconcious thing. Diamonds sound more valuable than pearls, so people pick diamond. Personally, I'd pick Pearl if I bought one of the two. Everyone would be clamoring to trade for my pearl exclusive pokemon.

Why is Super Mario 64 in there? Could they really not cite a 4th game that's popular and isn't the 3rd Mario game they've mentioned?

Well some people stop buying these NDS game they download them using these things call
"ROMS" first they buy the game and then convert them into roms and upload them into sites.
