Intel Claims Nintendo's Next System Won't Have Controller

I'd file this one in the "grain of salt" department, since no controller means no backwards compatibility and no ports of traditional games, but Intel's speculation is still pretty interesting. Right now the company is shopping new chips around to the Big Three console manufacturers for use in their next round of new consoles, and they believe the next Nintendo console (nicknamed "Wii 2") is going to be even crazier than the current one.

"We imagine some future generation of [Nintendo's] Wii won't have hand controllers," said Justin Rattner, the company's chief technology officer.

"You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you're playing tennis."

Now, the article itself doesn't mention why Intel believes this. It could be pure speculation... but since it's Intel, there's the tantalizing possibility that it's not. Still, to me it sounds too much like the early "Revolution" rumors about the console projecting holograms out of people's TVs.
