Nyko to Release Wireless Nunchuk for Wii

Sorry about that drop in service over the past few days, had to scurry around putting out some fires. Now I'm back, and I'm going to talk about one of the absolute best things to get shown off at the 2008 CES: the Nyko Wireless Nunchuk.

Nyko makes some absurdly great peripherals for the Wii, often stuff where you're left wondering why Nintendo didn't make that to begin with. The Wireless Nunchuk is one such thing. It costs only $30 and requires a mere pair of AAA batteries to work for up to 30 hours. The Wireless Nunchuk can be moved up to three meters away from your Wii Remote and operates via a little dongle you insert in the base of the remote.

You may wonder "Why is getting a cordless Nunchuk such a big deal?" I shall regale you with an anecdote to explain why I care.

All my gaming hardware, even the debugs, is set up in my living room where I've got a lot of space to play and a nice HDTV to play on.

I also own a pair of cats, Stanlee and Kirby (yes, I'm a dork), who like to hang around the living room. They find humans playing the Wii only slightly less fascinating than a laser pointer. They like to hop up beneath the TV and bat at the onscreen cursor when I'm in the main Wii menu, they'll chew on the wriststrap if you don't use it, and they especially like to bat at the cord that connects the Wii remote and Nunchuk. This has resulted in a few "friendly fire" wounds when they were trying to "catch" the cord and caught my arm instead.

With a wireless Nunchuk, I'm sure my cats will cease to find my sessions on the Wii entertaining the moment I leave the Wii Menu, and that's just fine with me.

But how is Lara Croft supposed to spank herself with this?

Not bad. However, I'm a little concerned about the fact it uses standard batteries. 30 hours may seem like quite a bit of time for more casual players, but I could easily put in that much time over the course of a week.
