ELSPA: 90% of Americans Pirating DS Games

Jan. 31 10:59 PM by Alicia Ashby

So when Americans want to talk about outrageous software piracy, they talk about Koreans. When the United Kingdom wants to talk about outrageous software piracy, they talk about... Americans?

Check out this article from... well, I'm not sure what The Sunday Post is, actually. It appears to be a Scottish newspaper, but I can't say how reputable or trustworthy.

Anyway, it's this amazing whopper that's gotten the gaming community talking:

But John Hillier points out such actions are seriously short-changing the games industry.

The implications are massive. In America its thought 90 per cent of Nintendo DS users are playing pirated games because of R4s.

Takings from Nintendo DS games in the US are lower than any other console and no doubt it will have a similar impact here.

Uh, what? I'm not sure that's demographically possible, given how many American DSes are in the hands of 8-year-olds of both genders. Granted, little Korean kids are apparently pirate geniuses, so maybe our kids are just catching up.
