Wii Fit Race Cars to Appear in Memorial Day Races

Nintendo has partnered with Chip Ganassi Racing and Target to get cars with custom Wii Fit paint jobs into two major Memorial Day race events. The Wii Fit Indy 500 car will be Alex Lloyd's No. 16 Dallara Honda, while the Wii Fit car in the NASCAR Coke 600 will be the No. 40 Dodge usually driven by Dario Franchitti.

So why promote Wii Fit with race cars, other than the basic fact that people like racing? To quote Nintendo's Steve Bickham:

Wii Fit is an easy way for every member of the family to keep active and play together, and we felt this day of auto racing was a perfect match. A day at the races is always lots of fun, but these drivers need to be in top shape to endure the 1,100 miles that Team Ganassi will race that day.

Well, if nothing else, it's an interesting step outside of the conventional logic of Wii Fit's marketing. Obviously, Nintendo isn't just out to target women with this game. Most of the eyeballs glued to the screen for the Memorial Day races will belong to men.
