Nintendo of Japan just announced a new game by the Chibi Robo dev team that seems like a lock for eventual U.S. release. First, here's the trailer...
Now here's what 1up has to say about the mind-bendingly awesome thing you just saw:
The Captain Rainbow of the title is the alter ego of Nick, a typical geeky guy with a penchant for loud, flower-themed clothing. As the eponymous captain, he's a super-studly hero with a bunch of crazy fighting moves and a magic yo-yo to finish the bad guys off with, but his popularity with the kids just isn't there -- in fact, the ratings for his TV show are just about in the dumps. So Nick takes a trip to Mimin Island, a fabled land where it's said your wishes can come true -- but thanks to an unexpected turn of events, it's actually Captain Rainbow who has to help out all the island's inhabitants with their own wishes.

I hope you're right about the game having a high chance of coming out in the US, it looks neat. Apparently from what I hear, the game is going to be full of appearances by obscure Nintendo characters. (Dunno if I'd consider Birdo obscure though.)
Birdo is somewhat obscure in Japan, where you never see him outside of Mario Party and what they call Super Mario USA. I have to say the Golf dude's cameo 1up describes has me all kinds of psyched, though.
I think the only Skip Ltd. games we never got in the US are the Bit Generations titles, and those probably fell down the same "the GBA doesn't sell anymore!" hole that ate Mother 3 and Rhythm Tengoku.
This game is so crazy is had to be good, right?
The news about the Golfer from, uh Golf, being included was pretty surprising to me as well. Interesting that he apparently isn't Mario like so many assumed before. Even the old "Mario Mania" book claimed he was. Though Nintendo could've just decided to make him a different character.
I'm personally hoping to see Mach Rider make an appearance.
That looks pretty awesome, but I hope they don't have to change the yo-yo for the NA release.
